Taking the Assessment Slowly

Hi again

Currently working through stage 3 of the assignment over the weekend! I already said in one of my last posts that reflecting and taking things slowly is effective for working to your best ability.

Currently, I am also working through the last couple of moodle books for the learning path of week 8 and writing down some steps. For those who are struggling, I recommend that you go back and work through the “Assessment-  tasks, criteria and descriptors” and also look at the Australian Curriculum Lessons site for inspiration for lesson content.

Even if you don’t have time to work through each section in depth because of time constraints, definitely copy and paste the parts you would like to revisit into a word document for you later reference so you don’t need to waste time clicking through 20 pages. (top tip)

Evaluating my Learning Experience

This is an extension activity from this post and is also part of the week 8 learning path.

Learning Area: History

Learning Objective: By the end of the unit students should be able to sequence information about people’s lives, events, developments and phenomena using a variety of methods including timelines

Learning experience: (what will students do?) Students write a diary (using blogging) to document a timeline from the perspective of a group from Australia’s 1800’s point of view.

SLIC Replacement Amplification Transformation
Student Learning     Students have to consider and create a character based on research form prior lessons.
Instructional Method   Teacher instructions are amplified through the use of ICT software. Teacher will be showing examples prior to the students starting.
Curriculum Goals     In addition to historical knowledge of timelines, students are becoming knowledgeable on how to do blog entries.

The Importance of Reflecting

Something that has been always compromised or skipped completely quite often for myself is reflection. This course has definitely reminded me of the value of reflection. Although this is a reallly time consuming subject, I do sometimes wish that other subjects would adopt a similar approach to their layout of completion. Over on Courtney’s blog   she takes part in weekly reflections for this subject and I love how she uses them to organise her thoughts around her plan of attack of the assignments and also reflects on her progress of them. As pre service teachers it is really important that we get into the habit of completing regular reflections as all of my mentor teachers I have had still do them on a regular basis. This article has more information on the benefits of being a reflective teacher.

How will I measure the success of ICT intergration?

I just completed the learning path activity about the above question and I covered two points about ICT intergration.
Firstly, success can be measured simply by seeing if students are engaged in learning. This is based around a basic assumption,if students are drawing learning experiences and knowledge while ICT is involved in learning, the ICT has been successfully integrated to an extent.

Here is an article on the about the benefits that ICT has regarding student engagement.

Also, the RAT model provides teachers with a good indication on whether their use of ICT is just replacing something in the learning experience, amplifying the options of completing the task or whether it is facilitating new learning experiences as a result.

How will I measure the success of ICT intergration?

Hello, it me. (again)

This post is purely going to be dedicated to a student mention due to some very legitimate reasons.

Firstly, like Kate, I do need to schedule because a) OCD and b) it is really effective. Seeing other peoples’ uni/productivity schedules makes me super motivated to follow in suit, so thank you very much. I do need to take this assignment slowly and by completing a small part everyday I feel better about myself.

Quality

Quantity

Also, I remember when I first started this course I would Google a lot of other student blog posts for inspiration, but shortly after found that my brain is sporadic and I do not need any more direction that necessary. One of the things that did interest me in the commonality of posts about weekly schedules (to the extent where I would read them out of curiosity and not out of finishing this assignment). But if it wren’t for them I would not be doing this post out of choice late at night. So there you go.

Goodnight

Measuring Success of ICT

Hi again

Jumping right into the question for week 8’s learning path ‘How will you know if your use of ICTs in these learning experiences was successful’ now!

My opinion on this is that
a) according to the RAT model, ICT should not replace the job in which we are all studying hard for
b) actually excite students and provide them with intrinsic motivation during the learning experience

To see more comprehensive breakdowns of the week 8 question see this student’s blog as I do appreciate how they considered student learning goals and student ability levels in this question.

Constructing and Transforming Knowledge

Hi again, the week four catch up continues…

As part of the learning path we were required to distinguish the difference between constructing and transforming knowledge.

In my assignment based around year 5 History I demonstrated my knowledge of the differences and chose;

Constructing:

  • The nature of convict or colonial presence, including the factors that influenced patterns of development, aspects of the daily life of the inhabitants and how the environment changed (including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples) (ACHASSK107)

Transforming;

Sequence information about people’s lives, events, developments and phenomena using a variety of methods including timelines(ACHASSI097)

My friend Priya has demonstrated a lovely example of her construct and transform over on her blog for grade 3 geography

Diigo Activity Week 4

  1. Develop a reasonable initial idea of the context, learning objectives, criteria, and a possible unit topic for Assignment 2.
  2. Write a post on your blog that describes your initial idea.
  3. Share your post to the EDC3100 Diigo group.

This is the task from all the way back in week 4 which was saved in my drafts as a ‘please don’t forget to do me’. I nearly did. Anyway here is what I have decided on for my context etc. for assignment 2.

I have chosen my unit topic to be based around year 5 history ‘Australia during the 1800’s. My context involves a classroom that has access to both computers and iPads. In addition to this the class also attends regular ICT lessons so they already have a firm grasp of how to use a lot of applications on the computer and internet. My learning objective ‘students should be able to sequence information about people’s lives, events, developments and phenomena using a variety of methods including timelines.’ The criteria that I have chosen are;Historical Knowledge and Understanding
    Questioning and Researching
    Communicating
    Analysing and Interpreting

I’m Back- Semester 1 Part 2

Hi Everyone, wow this is so delayed!

Me being the genius I am has forgotten to keep up with the (9)? blog entries we are meant to be doing as part of the second assignment, but has still kept on top of the learning paths somehow. So this morning I have devised a very clever plan of attack to create 8 other ‘beautiful’ blog posts around the key concepts from the learning paths before Friday I believe. In addition to that I am steadily working through Stage 3 of the assignment, so I am all okay, really.

In other news I am pretty much the only person in a lot of tutorials who hasn’t received a grade for their assignment 1 submission yet. That’s either bad or good, hopefully the latter.

See you in the next blog post…very shortly
